Character Analysis
Carmen
Carmen made the decision to get married again, I think that it was a bad choice on her part to pick a fascist as a husband but I'm not quite aware of the circumstances that lead up to the marriage. Based on the times I think it was necessary for Carmen to remarry, especially as a civil war was happening, in the end however I think caving in to the pressure was the right choice but with the wrong person.
The Doctor
He made the decision to kill the man being tortured rather than keep him alive so he could be tortured even more until he died. I Think the Doctor made the right choice, even though it resulted in his death. However, I'm not sure the Doctor would have been able to live with himself if he kept the man alive. He was definitely aware of the pressure of disobeying a direct order. The Doctor defied the pressure of obeying orders.
Ofelia
She decided not to sacrifice a drop of her brother's blood. Since I've finished the film I will say that she made the right choice, but if a drop of her brother's blood was necessary I'd say she was being too emotional about the decision, after all it's just a drop.
By choosing not to draw a drop of her brother's blood she thought she'd lost the opportunity to take up her birthright to be princess and an immortal. She most definitely defied the pressure.
